With our latest update, you can communicate with customers in multiple languages.

This is helpful for International stores or storefronts that operate in multiple languages.

So, let us get started. First off, head over to Email settings -> Customers. As you all know, you will find the email notifications here:

The Select language dropdown menu will allow us to select multiple languages and create templates for them. The Default Language checkbox will show the default language we have chosen in case we don't have a translation for a particular language, which in my case, is English (Image 1.).

You can see in the screenshot below that I have Danish, Dutch, English, and German as existing languages:

Image 2.

All available languages will be listed under Available languages. English will be the default for all other languages except Danish, Dutch, German, and English. Let's create one example template for the German language so we can test this out:

Image 3.

As you can see in Image 3., I've created a Pending Return template for my German customers. Remember that this is not my default template (the checkbox is not checked) and will be sent in all cases where customers have set the German language as their default browser language. My template is active, and I'm all set!

  • Customers will receive the template based on the customer locale set in Shopify.

  • There's only one default template; other templates will be sent in cases where our system recognizes the specific language.

  • The templates must be active to be sent.

  • All metrics remain the same, i.e., in the English language.
