Automations are taking over - and they've taken over Refunds as well! Let's learn how to set up our refund automation in a matter of minutes:

  1. As it usually is, everything begins with a first step. Our first one is heading over to Configuration -> Returns -> Enable auto refund.

  2. There, we will notice that we have several options that will help us tailor the functionality to our business' needs. Let's explore them in more detail.

    1. Enable automatic refund -> Check the box to enable the functionality. Pretty self-explanatory.

    2. Set refund status -> Choose the status when this automatic refund will be initiated. It's always best to provide an example in these cases. Let's say that you have reviewed your return and you're ready to approve it. If the next step is tied to the Approved status, then you can also choose Approved here. This will ensure that the refund gets automatically processed when your return gets Approved. If this is another status, simply choose a different one. The status here dictates when the return will be automatically approved.

    3. Send notification to customer -> This will ensure that a notification has been sent to your customers when the refund has been processed.

    4. Attach a note to the Order -> By checking this box, you will ensure that a note gets added to the order.

    5. Refund Shopify note -> You can choose the text of the note here.

  3. Once we have our desired setup in place, we're all set. If you have chosen the Approved status or In Transit, as in my example above, the refund will be processed as soon as the status gets saved.

How cool is that? If you're also looking to automate exchanges, don't forget to check out our tutorial here.
