Did you know that you can easily create exchange orders from your dashboard? You can just as easily automate that process. How? Follow me.

  1. Over to Configuration -> Exchanges -> Exchange Orders tab. This is the place we're looking for.

  2. Let's see how we can configure our Exchange Orders and what options we have available:

    1. Attach a note to the Exchange Order -> This option dictates whether or not you want to attach a note to the Exchange Order when you create it. Make someone's day.

    2. Create a Free Exchange Order -> Toggling this will ensure that you create a free exchange order. If this is disabled, we will create the exchange order with full-price line items and any outstanding balance will have to be collected manually.

    3. Restock original items -> When creating an exchange order, you're prompted whether or not to restock the items. Enabling this will ensure the checkbox is checked by default.

    4. Order Confirmation -> By checking this box, you will make sure that Shopify's default order confirmation email gets sent to the customer.

    5. Use Title of Original Shipping Method -> Enable this only if you want the title of the shipping method from the original order. If not, the default will be "Free Shipping".

  3. Once we're all good with our settings here, let's try and create an Exchange Order. Note that you can also create a draft one. I submitted an Exchange request and you can see on the following screenshot that my Exchange Order and Draft Order buttons are active.

You can choose to restock the item immediately. You can also choose not to. You've got the power.

Either way, press 'Yes' and you will see that we created an Exchange Order. Let's check it out!

This was way too easy. We also have a way of automating this process so it's even easier. I mean, is it possible?

Yes, it is. Check out our Automate Exchange Orders article.
