Although Shopify doesn't support inventory reservation natively, our Out-of-Stock option will allow you to reserve inventory once quantities fall under a certain value. Let's dive right into this:
Head over to our Inventory Management section. You can find it here. You'll be able to spot the Out of Stock section. Press the Add button to start creating the reservation.
We have two options to set up:
Value - this is the number or the quantity that we will be looking at. If the quantity of that certain product falls below that number, this product will be displayed as out-of-stock during exchanges.
Method - you can base this configuration either on the product tag of the product or select a specific product from your catalogue. Whichever works best for you.
Let's go ahead and configure this. After we're done, we can hit the Save changes button.
In my example here, I configured this based on both tags and products.
The first config is based on tags: if the quantity of a product with the tag 'T-Shirts' falls under 2, this product will be marked as out-of-stock during exchanges.
The second config is based on my product, 'Adidas ESS W Tee (Blue / S)". When the quantity of this product falls below 2, then this product will be marked as out-of-stock during exchanges.
How easy was setting this up? Inventory is important so make sure that you have the right stock for the right products!
